Frequently Asked Questions
Our staff resources are limited, so it might take a few days for special requests to be answered. We encourage you to find answers to common questions below – we can’t make any exceptions at this point. Thank you for your excitement about helping and we will be in touch soon!
My child wants to volunteer! What can my family do to help?
Our programs are volunteer-run so our policy only allows volunteers over the age of 18 who can make a year-long commitment. Mature 16-17 year olds who have experience serving children and can make a long-term commitment can send lana.hcpp(at)gmail.com their background to be considered with references and parent permission. Additionally, since we have limited space and try to maintain a 3:1 kid to volunteer ratio, we can’t allow parent volunteers to bring their own little ones along. We hope you’ll come to our Halloween Parties or help organize year-round holiday parties with your family or youth-group! School supply, arts & crafts, winter clothes and school uniform, book and holiday gift drives are also great ways to get kids involved and will directly impact the children we serve.
I have a special activity that I’d like to do with the kids! What can I do and who do I contact?
Our trained volunteers provide activities on a weekly basis to kids, but we are always looking for special guests who can bring something extra to a Playtime evening. Visiting musicians, athletes and artists have led great workshops in our sites! If you or your group, have a special activity that you’d like to share, we would love your contribution and talents to be involved! Please email playtimeproject(at)gmail.com with 1) The number of people in your group; 2) What somethin’ extra you want to contribute; 3) What materials you would plan to bring and what you would need from us; 4) A few dates that might work for you to come to our evening programs from 6:30-8:30pm Monday –Thursday. Thank you!
My group wants to help! What can we do?
The most common way that groups help Playtime is by “Adopting a Playroom” to help clean, reorganize and beautify the spaces to reduce chaos and keep the kids safe. These opportunities can take place during the day or weekends and are great for companies or student groups. Please email playtimeproject(at)gmail.com with 1) The number of people in your group and 2) Some dates and times that you’d like to come help.
We also look to groups to sponsor and throw Holiday parties, sponsor Holiday gifts for kids, and hold office drives for Halloween costumes, school supplies and winter clothes. Please email us if interested!
I have a donation of toys, furniture, clothes, etc! Do you need it?
For the rest of 2011, we cannot take any more used toy donations. We occasionally accept in-season children’s clothes and new socks and underwear. Please refer to our list of what new items we need here. We will respond to donation offers once/week. Please email lana.hcpp(at)gmail.com with inquiries. Thank you for your interest!
